Do you have a 40-year-old mom? Are you a 40-year-old mom? If so, you’re the new gamer according to this article by WebProNews.
Social gaming is all the rage and it isn’t teenage boys that are playing. It’s their mothers. So why should you care? Well, unless you’re one of them, you might want to figure out how to use Zynga games to market to them.
Last year, it was Farmville. This year, evidently, it is Cityville. Whichever Zynga game it is that is most popular right now, creative and savvy marketers are going to find a way to break in and use it as a marketing tool.
Take a play out of the playbook of Bing, the search engine. Offer an incentive in one of the games for people to friend you on Facebook, or your fan page. Or come up with another angle that will be attractive to women in the 25-44 year old age bracket.
While that may be the largest demographic for Zynga games, keep in mind that it isn’t the only demographic. Only 53% of Zynga gamers fit that demographic. 55% overall are women. Wow – that leaves the other 2% for below 25 and over 44. I guess Grandma is out.
Are you creative? Are you savvy? Are you ready for Marketing 101? Maybe you should be playing Cityville.

Social media is gaining more and more popular by the day. And recent statistics show that women are heavier Internet users than men. We use it to shop and to do business online. But if you really want the low down on using social media for business, you’ll need to sign up for a special presentation this Thursday, December 17, 2009 by yours truly – Caroline Melberg.
Here’s what I’ll be covering in the seminar:
- Why “Marketing as Usual” no longer works
- Creative ways you can tap into the Twitter craze to market your business affordably
- Specific social media take-aways you can use to find new customers and increase your sales right away
- How social media helps you rank higher with the search engines
- How to strategically implement a social media plan for your business that eliminates wasted time and gets results
- Why you need to get started with social media today!
So why should you listen to me?
I’ll share my experiences over the past 20 years working with some of the largest and most successful companies in the world. I’ve been doing traditional marketing for a long time, but most recently I have been engaged in social media so I’ve seen both sides of the marketing coin. I am also the author of the popular e-book series “Small Business Internet Marketing Secrets” and the award-winning newsletter by the same name.
As a Social Media Strategist, I have created customized social media road maps that have driven increased sales for my clients over and over again. I will de-mystify online marketing and social media for you and put it in easy-to-understand plain language.
This is an exclusive teleseminar on December 17th. Be there at the following times:
Eastern 4:00 PM
Central 3:00 PM
Mountain 2:00 PM
Pacific 1:00 PM
The cost is a nominal $12.95, $4.95 if you are an eWomenNetwork member.

It’s only 12 days away and I’m giddy with excitement. I’ll be speaking at the Adventures in Brainstorming (For Women in Business) event by Marketing on the Playground.
Of course, I’ll be in good company. I’ll be delivering some comments on how you can make your website stand out in the crowd. In fact, the title of it is, “How to Make YOUR Website Stand-Out
from the Online Crowd.”
The first thing I’m going to do is split you off into group of three. Then I’ll give you a worksheet and walk you through the steps to finding your keywords to help you optimize your website. Even if you don’t have a website, this will be a useful exercise as you can do the groundwork before you do the groundwork.
The event takes place September 25, 2008, from 12:30 p.m. – 2 p.m. If you bring your own lunch it’s only $15 to attend or you can pay $25 and get lunch.
And, of course, there is always the networking opportunity. You’ll get to meet a lot of wonderful people. Be sure to bring a 15-second business highlight – a time that has been a real positive for you in business. For more information, and to register, visit the Marketing on the Playground website.

Earlier this month I attended the e-Women Network Conference and met a wonderful businesswoman and fellow entrepreneur with a great idea. I just wanted to share some thoughts about Janet Powers, owner of Diva Toolbox.
The Diva Toolbox appears, on the surface, to be an article directory. And it is. But it’s really more than that. It’s a community – a community for women who want to share and travel the professional journey together. Being at Diva Toolbox is like two girlfriends sitting across the kitchen table enjoying a cup of coffee and pleasant conversation. Janet’s motto is, “Within you lies the ability to do anything. Find it.” I like that. It says something meaningful, and Janet lives by that motto, which is why we got along so well so quickly.
I’ve decided that I’m going to add Diva Toolbox to my list of directories to submit articles to. I’ve added my first article already.
I strongly encourage you to check out Janet’s new site, Diva Toolbox, and read some of the great material she has there.

While I welcome both men and women on this blog, there is an event geared specifically to women coming up that I would like to cover. Adventures in Brainstorming is an event hosted by my friend, Beth Woodward, for women in business.
If you live in the Minneapolis-St. Paul, Minnesota area, this is the perfect opportunity to meet up with other women who are running businesses and not only get some networking done, but also to brainstorm great ideas for your business. Everyone will be divided into groups of four to come up with ideas for their businesses and with so many talented women, you can be sure the ideas will be flying!
I went to Beth’s LAST event in January, and I can tell you it was extremely powerful. I walked away with many great ideas, and several that I’ve implemented have already paid me back for my investment in the program several times over, with more results to come. I highly recommend Beth’s Adventures in Brainstorming for anyone looking for breakthrough ways to grow your business!
Head over to the Adventure in Brainstorming website now, because if you book before March 25th, you can get a discount! The brainstorming will be held on April 1st.
