YouTube is giving video content creators a new way to increase their audiences and improve their skills. It’s called the YouTube Creator Institute.
This looks like a good deal. You can learn more creative ways to produce your content so that it shines and attracts new audiences. The reason for introducing this is obvious. YouTube is hoping to make money from your content. Of course, if you make money, they’ll make money so there’s a strong interest in helping you become the best content creator you can become.
Whether you have an idea for a small business video show or a new form of YouTube entertainment, you can learn all about camera angles, lighting, storytelling, promotion, and pick up a whole host of skills necessary for running a new media hit.
YouTube is one of the top video marketing and video sharing websites online. It’s also owned by Google. Whatever you do, if you do it well, YouTube can help you succeed and take it to new audiences. It can help you expand your current audience. And it can help you grow your business beyond your wildest dreams. The YouTube Creator Institute looks like a good deal. I wouldn’t pass this opportunity up.

A nasty rumor is spreading, according to WebProNews, that YouTube is considering paying celebrities to provide video content channels. If true, what will that do to your channel?
Can you imagine competing against the likes of Ashton Kutcher and Oprah Winfrey for attention? If this report is true, you might have to.
If you think this is no different than competing against the Big O and the Big A on Twitter, think again. YouTube provides video content and video by its nature is much more demanding of attention than 140 characters of text. Besides, YouTube is one of the top 5 Web properties in terms of traffic and Twitter isn’t. YouTube is also owned by Google and has deep pockets. Plus, there is plenty of money to be made in online video content.
I’m not saying this is a negative in any way. However, if celebrities are paid for providing YouTube content, your YouTube channel could be relegated to second-class status by a celebrity who is competing directly against you. That means you’d have to be that much more creative and aggressive in your YouTube marketing efforts.
But then, there’s the other hand (isn’t there always another hand?). Celebrity YouTube channels could also present a unique marketing opportunity for your small business by giving you another advertising channel. Is that what YouTube’s real goal is?

We’re nearing the end of 2010 and year-ends usually end up with a few predictions. So, I thought I’d come up with a short prediction list for 2011. What will the next year for online marketing look like?
It’s not difficult to predict. I think, for the most part, it will roll along pretty close to the way the last year did. There won’t be any sweeping changes. However, I do believe that Internet marketing in 2011 will be characterized by three major tiers of marketing. These are:
There it is. In a nutshell. 2011.
So what does it mean, exactly? Here’s what I think this means for most small businesses.
If you really want to reach your target audience, be more social, keep it local, and talk to them in video. Don’t limit yourself to these three things, but do incorporate them. But where?
My top three picks for achieving these three Internet marketing goals are:
And, of course, both Google and Bing have Local Maps, or directories, features that you shouldn’t ignore. But, for the most, these three applications can take care of all three Internet marketing tiers fairly easily. Develop a presence on these three social sites and you should be good as gold throughout most of the coming year.

YouTube has finally surpassed the 1 billion mark on subscribers. If you don’t think that’s significant then you don’t know much about YouTube. The subscriber part I’m talking about are channels.
So what’s a YouTube channel? Good question. And the answer is real simple.
A channel is your individual YouTube account. That’s your channel. And every time another YouTube user subscribes to your channel that’s a feather in your cap. So there are 1 billion total subscribers to channels on YouTube. Big deal, right?
Actually, it is a big deal because there are 16 channels with more than 1 million users each. WebProNews says there are 15, but lists 16.
Now, do you think 1 million subscribers to your channel would be a big deal? You bet it is. That’s clout. I’d say if you’ve got more than 100,000 subscribers then you are doing really well, but to have 1 million, well, that just means you have a lot of power. It means you can sell advertising. Make money. It means you can probably get a movie or a book deal. Make money. Catch my drift?
So how do you make money on YouTube? Get a lot of subscribers to your channel. But how do you that? Produce great videos and promote the heck out of them. You think you can do that with your small business? I think so. You might not get 1 million subscribers, but if you get 100,000 subscribers then that’s pretty good for business. Don’t you think?

One of the things that webmasters, and small business owners in particular, can get better at is embedded video. There seems to be a lot of missed opportunities in using video as a marketing tool for small businesses.
We could pontificate about how this is the case, but I’d rather just get right to the quick and tell you how embedded video can increase the traffic to your website.
No. 1, if the video you embed is on YouTube then you can leave a comment on the video after you’ve embedded it on your site and say something to the effect:
Come hear what we’re saying about this video at xxxxxxx.com.
Change the xxxxxxx.com to your domain name (I don’t mean to demean your intelligence, but I thought I’d state the obvious. )
Next, after posting the video to your site, bookmark it somewhere. Try to bookmark that video at the most popular social bookmarking sites and be sure to give it a well-written, enticing summary.
If you do those two things alone then you’ll see an increase of traffic to your site. But there is another way embedded video can lead to more traffic.
Let’s say you want to add video to your site. Make the video then upload it to YouTube or another one of the video directories online (Note: YouTube is the most popular one). Next, embed that video on your website. If you do that often enough and use YouTube like a social networking site – making friends, commenting on their videos, favoriting the videos you like, etc. – then you’ll develop a following on YouTube and soon you will see that all of your videos are being watched by a lot of people. If you filled out your profile correctly then you put a link to your website on your YouTube profile. A certain percentage of your video watchers will visit your website through that link.
And that’s about it. It’s pretty simple. Videos have a lot of potential for reputation management, SEO, and website traffic.

I hadn’t seen this prediction yet, but it sure is striking:
Cisco is also predicting that by 2013, 90% of web traffic will be for video content, a significant jump from today’s 30%.
So what does it mean?
One thing I think it means is that we are on the verge of a new kind of mass marketing. Video marketing has been around for a few good years – about 5. But it is slowly picking up speed. We’re almost at the apex of video marketing as a mass marketing tool, about where article marketing was in 2003.
I’m not sure the 90% prediction is accurate or not, but let’s say that it’s partially accurate. Let’s say that by 2013, 60% of all online content viewed will be video content. That’s a lot of content. And it’s likely that the lion’s share of that – probably 80% – will be on YouTube. YouTube could then very well be rivaling Facebook and Google for traffic.
But will it be a good marketing vehicle?
I believe it already is, but I also believe the opportunities are about to get better. You’d better brace yourself for video marketing because it’s coming and when it hits the big time the world of online marketing just won’t be the same.

Apparently, YouTube is giving video producers another option – rentals. So, not only can you use YouTube as a marketing vehicle, you can also use it as a rental vehicle. Make excellent videos and rent them a la Blockbuster style.
I love the fake logo that accompanies the article on Marketing Pilgrim:

OK, it’s a funny joke, but YouTube is also sharing the money so let’s not too giddy. Plenty of time for that after you cash the checks. To me, it seems like a real opportunity for video producers who are serious about their business. Just one word of caution: Make sure you have a really good video or it could just fall on its face.

The YouTube Partners Program has been a bit of a success and there are quite a few people running full run entertainment and educational series on YouTube. It’s become a bit of a monetary game on its own. Well, Google is now taking ideas to improve the program and you’re invited.
I’d just like to take this time to suggest to you that being a YouTube partner might be a way for you to grow your audience. If you have not tried video marketing yet then this could be your big chance.
But understand the difference between video marketing and running your own YouTube channel as a YouTube partner. It’s a bit like the difference between NPR and a syndicated radio show host. While both have their merits, publicly-funded radio simply cannot hope to reach the same pinnacle of monetary success that privately-funded syndication can. That’s not to say the programming is better – it’s just apples and oranges.
The age of the video has arrived. Now is the time to get on the train. I hope you’re at least standing at the depot.

YouTube has grown to be in the top 5 largest sites online. It is one of the top three biggest social networks (along with Facebook and Twitter). Plus, the fact that it is a video network means that it has something unique to offer that other social networks don’t.
The latest statistics show that the audience for online videos is growing. But that alone is not reason enough to start your own YouTube channel. However, if your business niche is such that an audience exists for your type of video content then your own YouTube channel would be extremely beneficial.
YouTube marketers who have their own channel tend to pick up more viewers over time. Just like other forms of Internet marketing, video marketers works better long term when frequency and longevity are at work. The more videos you produce more often, the better.
Having your own YouTube channel is like owning your own TV station. You set the programming, time of production, and frequency of material. Then you find your audience. If you can build a solid and loyal audience for your content, it’s powerful marketing.

You’ve considered video marketing, but you’re not quite sure how to approach it. Is it about marketing or is it about video production? It’s not as stupid a question as you might think.
Many online marketers – even small businesses – are using video to their advantage. They are engaged in video marketing, but they aren’t spending thousands of dollars producing high quality video products that are designed as massive marketing campaigns. It isn’t high gloss.
That’s not to say the videos aren’t high quality. Many of them are. They just aren’t high gloss. In other words, no paid actors with rehearsed smooth talk, no scripts, no elaborate stage sets; in other words, they aren’t video “productions”. They are video messages designed to aid the small business owner to enter into a relationship with prospects through multimedia images where body language can be interpreted as much as anything else. We’re talking about friendly productions that are real and offer real communication from one person to another, not some hyped up marketing message delivered by a paid actor.
If this sounds like you then video marketing is a good way to go. Just don’t jump in without a plan.
