How To Get Instant Credibility

Thursday, October 27th, 2011

If you are a small business owner and trying to pave a path to your door for your customers to follow in getting to know you better and do business with you, then the one thing you should prioritize above everything else is writing a book.

That’s right. Writing and publishing a book will give you instant credibility. Here’s why.

When people hold something tangible in their hands, they know it’s real. When you have your name on the cover of a book, you become an instant authority. Remember, the first half of “authority” is “author.”

So become an author.

It’s not easy. In fact, it’s easier said than done. But it can be done. By writing a book on your topic and offering it for sale on your blog or website, you tell your prospects and your customers that you are a person who knows your business. You are an expert.

So what’s it take to be a published author? It’s easier than you think. You first have to write a book. Then you can spend a couple of hundred dollars to have your first 50 or 100 books published through one of many Publish On Demand publishers on the Internet (be sure to do your homework and find a reputable publisher). Then you start marketing.

If you want instant credibility, write a book. Put the authority in author.

What Is Social Publishing?

Monday, October 12th, 2009

Social publishing is a new form of web publishing that involves a relationship between multiple publishers sharing the same platform to reach a mass audience. Examples include blogging, wiki, forums, and in some cases even content management systems. It’s still relatively not talked about even though some brands have been engaged in social publishing for some time.

In a word, social publishing is many-to-many publishing. Unlike past publishing systems like one-to-one as in e-mail or one-to-many as in newsletters and mass book publishing, many-to-many publishing systems allow more than one individual to use the same platform to reach an audience. That is just one example of the power of the Internet.

Many corners of the web, and particularly the small business web, are still stuck on the one-to-many concept of web publishing, which is powerful but obvious. The many-to-many aspect is not so obvious and is difficult to achieve without the right technology. The focus is on building a community. With the right leadership and motivation, you can provide a social publishing platform for you industry or niche, one that will pay you huge social dividends over time. Are you ready?

3 Article Marketing Strategy Tips

Sunday, September 27th, 2009

Article marketing is one of the oldest forms of online marketing and it still works. There are really two ways to conduct article marketing and both have their advantages and disadvantages. You can write article and mass distribute them or write unique articles and submit them one by one to blogs and websites until someone approves them. I recommend using both strategies if possible.

But those aren’t your own two options. Here are three article marketing strategies you can employ today:

  • Article Mass Distribution – Write an article and send it out to 10 or more article directories. Make sure the article is a unique article that will not trigger duplicate content filters. Distribute the article through article directories like EzineArticles or through article distribution services like iSnare, but get it out there.
  • Single Publisher Distribution – Many article marketers are now writing unique articles and distributing them through one single publisher. Make sure your article is unique and offers high quality content. Settle for nothing less. If you do this then you’ll have no problem getting your article published.
  • Blog Your Articles – Another method of getting your articles out there for marketing is to set up a blog and you can publish your own articles on your blog. Put the blog on a web domain of its own and use it to build back links to your other web properites. You can even take guest authors on this blog.

Article marketing is far from dead. It is very much alive and if you produce enough high quality articles over time you can make yourself a real expert in your niche.

Sources: Is The Internet Destroying Truth?

Friday, May 8th, 2009

Have you ever heard of Maurice Jarre? I hadn’t until I read this article in WebProNews. Turns out, I should have known who he is. He wrote the music score for several high profile movies like Dead Poets Society and Doctor Zhivago.

If anyone can edit a website like Wikipedia, or publish a blog post, and throw out erroneous information that goes unchecked, how long will it be before none of us can rely on information at all? Even mainstream newspapers like Guardian and London Independent reprinted a prank quote from a Wikipedia article. If the mainstream press is doing it then how much more so are everyone else?

You may be asking what does this have to do with Internet marketing for small businesses? Plenty actually. Do you check or double check the sources you use for your blogs and articles? If so, how do you check for accuracy? How should you?

I think there are some rules of thumb we should all strive to pay attention to. Chief among those is where else can you verify the information? If you find something that purports to be true, you should check to see if you can find that information somewhere else. If not then it may not be true. Another thing to consider, and this is just as important as using more than one source, is to ensure that the sources you do use – all of the sources – are credible authoritative sources. Wikipedia is not. There are too many fingers in the pie. But Encyclopedia Britannica is. You’d like Guardian and other mainstream newspaper editors would know that. So should small business owners.
