Is Your Business Blog Interesting?

Monday, November 17th, 2008

Anyone can blog. All you need to do in order to start up a blog is start typing and you could technically get away with just a line or two per day. Keywords, product placement and SEO aside, the bottom line is whether or not anyone will actually want to read your business blog.

There are literally millions of blogs in existence, but the majority of these are ignored and left behind once the owners realize that no one is bothering to read their pieces of work. Others may make it big in search engines through careful use of SEO and link building, but no one ever sticks around to read them, the content is so dull.

Is your blog interesting enough that you would read it if you came across it on Google? It`s a good idea to think about how you can improve your blogging and make it more interesting for the reader. While getting good search engine rankings is always nice, it doesn`t mean that you should work on that exclusively. Clients come from people who read and enjoy your blog, so work on that side of things as well.

Blogging isn`t just about SEO. You need to look at what will keep real, human visitors on your blog, as well. Do they even have a reason to stick around?

Make Your Business Blog Popular

Monday, October 27th, 2008

It stands to reason that if your business blog is popular, your business will be, too. However, getting to be big in the world of business blogging is rarely easy. Unless you happen to be the only blog in your niche, chances are you`ll have a lot of competition. But don`t worry, you can still get up there.

Comment. The more you comment, the more people will notice you. But don`t just leave a “hi, nice post” comment, write something useful.

Guest post. By writing guest posts for other blogs, you`ll find that you are able to gain new followers and reach new audiences.

Join a group. Being active in a social networking group will help you gain popularity and as your network expands, more people will spread the news of your business blog.

A business blog rarely goes big on its own, so you`ll need to put in some effort to ensure that it grows and becomes well known. This will bring in more clients and improve your expert status, as well.

Can Blogging Really Help Your Business?

Saturday, March 29th, 2008

For anyone who has read the stereotypical blog, an online journal, blogging for business seems a bit silly. However, while blogging has many different faces, and one of those is most definitely personal, that doesn´t mean it is any less effective for promoting your business. In fact, blogging is a great way to help your business grow for a variety of reasons.

Why Business Blogging is Great

  • It´s cheap. You won´t find such a great method of publicity for next to nothing anywhere else!
  • You become an expert. When you are writing daily or several times a week on a specific topic, people come to recognize you as an expert in that field and you´ll have more credibility for your business.
  • Search engines will love you. It´s a well-known fact that blogs are a big deal for search engines who just love frequently updated material. With all the posts you´ll be putting out, you can be sure that you´ll rise through the ranks faster than just a website.
  • Build connections. There´s nothing like a blog to create connections throughout the industry. You link to websites and blogs that interest your readers and others link to you. It can be a huge boost for your publicity.
  • Create a community. People who trust you are far more likely to buy from you, so using your blog comments to create a community can really help increase sales and lets you make new friends, too.

Blogging for business is definitely a good idea. It is a very easy method of connecting with potential clients and it costs virtually nothing, depending on where you host your blog. If you haven´t already started a business blog, I would highly recommend doing so. You´ll be amazed at the difference.

Thursday, February 7th, 2008

Are you interested in blogging to help promote your small business? Or maybe you´re already blogging, but could use a little more knowledge. I´ve just started a blogging group that will be meeting up here in Minnesota and you are invited to join!

Basically, we´ll just be getting together from time to time to share blogging and social media tips with each other. It should be a great opportunity to learn more about online promotion of our businesses and it´s always good to meet up with other small business owners and bloggers who share your interests. We can always learn something and what better method than over a cup of coffee?

The next blogging meeting is going to be on March 3, 2008. Space is somewhat limited, so if you or anyone you know is interested, please make sure to RSVP so I´ll know to reserve you a spot.

You can sign up to join the Biz Blogger group HERE, and check out the other members. Even if you don´t live in the area, but have friends who do, feel free to refer them, we´re looking to grow this group and make it more valuable by including a more diverse membership. Everyone has something to share and we can all learn from each other!

Blogging Tips for New Business Blogs

Monday, February 4th, 2008

Setting up a business blog is a good idea and blogging is an excellent way to boost publicity without spending an arm and a leg on advertising. Search engines love blogs and, if you make yours informative, so will your prospective clients.

When you set up your new business blog, there are a few things to keep in mind to make your blog more effective as a whole.

  • Simple is good. When it comes to your blog design, avoid templates that will get in the way of your blogging. Clean and neat is the best look.
  • Focus on a specific niche. Even if your business covers a huge area, deciding to focus on one small niche can be very beneficial. You may want more than one blog if you have several topics to cover.
  • Link out. Linking to other blogs not only offers more value for your readers, which will keep them coming back, but it also catches the eye of other bloggers and you will end up with more visitors and maybe even some links yourself.
  • Break posts up. This post is a very good example of using bullet points and bold words in your blogging to make the post easier to read. Subheads are another good way to break up your text.
  • Spell check. This is super important. If you have several spelling mistakes in your post, it really doesn´t reflect well on your business!

Get your blogging off to the right start with the tips given above. You´ll find that there is a lot to learn about blogging on your business blog, but start out slowly. Subscribing to blog tip blogs like ProBlogger is a good idea to learn more.
