I agree with you that there will always be a place in communication for printed items.

I remember reading recently that vinyl sales actually saw an increase last year. So old technologies still find their place. :-)

As long as a portion of the populations responds to direct mail profitably for businesses there will be no replacing it with anything digital.

Hey Greg, that's the beauty of the Facebook Fan Page - it's the only part of Facebook that is searchable and indexed by Google and the search engines; I imagine the blog feature would be as well, which would be an added bonus from a search engine optimization standpoint for business owners!

I have always thought that FB should have a blogging feature! At this point, I only use FB for my close(ish) relationships...and I still see a need for a blogging feature. I've wanted to keep a blog chronicling my crazy family life - especially about what my kids are up to, but don't want to put something like that out on one of the blogging platforms because of privacy concerns (and not wanting to make my friends and families remember passwords, etc.) Having a platform right on FB would take care of that concern entirely.

As far as for business - I think Chris is right on the money. So many businesses are using the fan/friend feature - I am sure they'd use a blogging feature, too. Nice opportunity to go a little deeper than you can with a status or wall post.

BTW - this is my first visit to your blog; looks like a good one!

I like the idea. It would be a good place for businesses with a Facebook page to build content and interact more with fans. The question I have is, if Facebook were to do this would Google index that info? Last I heard, Google wasn't indexing Facebook info in their social search index.

It is a logical step for Facebook to take, though.

I agree with you whole heartedly Caroline. If I come from a place of honesty and integrity everything else falls into place. Thanks for highlighting it as your top advice. No surprise here - your advice is always rock solid!

Very good post; nicely done. I don't understand why some news websites would turn away links to their content. Did these people ever complain when someone photocopied an article and handed it to a few friends? Or even cut it out of a newspaper to give to someone?

Linking is online word of mouth. And we all know that is the best kind of marketing. Why would someone stop that?

Seth Godin did a recent post on the two lemonade stands, one that sold lemonade and nothing else, the other that had a child who spoke for a long time about general stuff before selling the drink.

You enjoy the conversation about grandparents, the weather, music etc. and end up buying more lemonade, and returning to buy more.

Connection counts more than anything else, especially when the world is so wired up, and people can Google you in a second.

get to know your customers on a real level, and enjoy it.

Thanks for the post.
