How Do You Read an e-Book?

You have heard of these great new things called e-books. They are the latest and greatest things on the web. Maybe you have even received one from a friend. Now that you have it what is the best way to read this new type of book? Just as there are different people there are different methods to reading an e-book.

The first thing to remember is that you need to identify your personality. If you are a techno savvy individual with the latest techno gadgets you are going to use one system to read your e-books. Maybe you abhor technology and have arrived at the scene kicking and screaming with your personal computer, you will clearly want to use another method to read the e-book.

Many people still prefer to actually have a physical copy of the information that they are reading. This preference extends from the younger generation into the older generation. For some it is simply easier to mark up the copy if paper and pen are available.

Marking up a copy will allow for easier note taking and review. Highlighting important parts of the book makes it simpler to find critical information later.

To others it is simpler to keep their place while reading; people may bend an ear of a page, use a traditional bookmark or even write on the paper to make a note of where they are in the text.

Should this sound like a great methodology to you then all you will need to do is to download the e-book that you desire to read. Open the e-book with your favorite word processor and print a copy of the e-book. If your word processor will not open the e-book then you will simply need to open the e-book with your web browser and print from that location, or download Adobe’s PDF Reader to read books stored in a .pdf format.

Printing the e-book file is actually an easy matter, but for lager files you may want to send them to a larger printer such as your local office supply printer.

If you are a techno geek you will probably want to read your e-book on the latest technology available. Many of today’s PDA’s (Personal Digital Assistants) will make reading an e-book simpler. You just need to download the e-book from the web in a format that your PDA can view.

To find out what your PDA is capable of reading refer to the instruction manual provided with your PDA. Once you have referred to the manual look for things like *.pdf or *.doc. Most PDA’s will allow you to view *.pdf files and *.doc files.

Whether your preferred method is to print a hard copy on paper or download to your PDA, the biggest thing with an e-book that you purchase or receive is to simply read the e-book. An e-book library of hundreds of e-books is worthless if they are not read.
